Shadow of the House, an intimate portrait of the celebrated Cuban American photographer, Abelardo Morell, follows him for over seven years. Morell’s decision to return to Cuba after 40 years of exile rouses intense anger and fear in his family and forces him to wrestle with his sense of cultural identity and familial allegiance. Through his story we see a reflection of the duality felt by many exiles –“I am of this place and I am not.” “How do I integrate the past with the present?’ This film explores the intersection between these issues and Morell’s idiosyncratic artistic vision.
